Driveline Woes Keep Team At Home
May 5th, 2012
After winning the opening night Thunder Car main event at Flamboro Speedway on April 21st, the season has quickly taken a turn for the worse for the Mark Burbridge Racing team. In the second event on April 28th, Mark broke what appeared to be a rear end gear in the qualifying heat, sidelining the team for the remainder of the evening.
During the course of this week, the team worked hard to replace the rear gear, as well as to replace a leaking water pump, and a broken wheel cylinder in the rear brakes. After all the hard work, the team was ready to prep the car to head to the track on Saturday morning when new issues uncovered themselves. When the team started the engine for the first time, serious noises were heard and bad vibrations felt, so the engine was immediately shut down. The team quickly tore the driveline of the car down, and discovered that clutch discs were cracked, and a gear had been torn apart inside the transmission. Both issues were likely a direct result of the rear end failure from a week ago.
The team will utilize an off week in the schedule to make the necessary repairs, and have the car back out on Victoria Day weekend, without missing any more events. The Mark Burbridge Racing team will return to the track next on Saturday, May 19th. See you at the track!
